Target Type
Clinical Trial
Disease Neurological disease [ICD9: 338, 338.2, 410, 782.3,780; ICD10: I21, I22, R52, R52.1-R52.2, R60.9, G89]
Nervous and musculoskeletal disorders [ICD10: R25-R29]
Pain [ICD9: 338, 356.0, 356.8,780; ICD10: G64, G90.0, R52, G89]
Function
This protein mediates the voltage-dependent sodium ion permeability of excitable membranes. Assuming opened or closed conformations in response to the voltage difference across the membrane, the protein forms a sodium-selective channel through which Na(+) ions may pass in accordance with their electrochemical gradient. This sodium channel may be present in both denervated and innervated skeletal muscle.
BioChemical Class
Voltage-gated ion channel
